Chris Ward from Hypnos celebrates the return of the bold and beautiful bed

As the recession continues to recede from our minds, we are seeing consumers once again embracing the idea of bringing luxury into their homes.  Whereas the last few years have seen function somewhat overtake facade, as consumer spending begins to flow once more, so too is the desire for exciting design.

While homeowners have traditionally been more reserved in their approach to interior design, with many preferring to lean towards more muted tones, we are now seeing an explosion of colour - particularly in the bedroom.  Instead of browns and creams that have historically been so popular, daring design-loving shoppers are now opting for bright greens, deep purples and vivid reds, in a bid to revamp their bedroom and make a real style statement.

With this year’s Pantone colour of the year named as Radiant Orchid, the appetite for colour is clear to see.  People no longer want to remain neutral; they wish to inject personality into their homes and create a visual feast for the eyes, with their homes offering a true reflection of who they are.

The best way to create a fun and exciting interior is to make use of statement furniture that will give the room a real talking point.  Often, the only way to truly create such a stunning centrepiece is to design an entirely bespoke item, made entirely to one person’s exacting requirements.  By designing a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture, homeowners can really zone in on every aesthetic element to ensure that it’s exactly what they want.

Many businesses are now offering customers the chance to make their product their own through customisation.  This applies to everything from phone cases to furniture; for example, Louis Vuitton now offers customers the chance to monogram a bag, while at Hypnos, we offer them the chance to choose from a multitude of headboards, divan bases, feet and fabrics in order to create their dream bed.

Hypnos recently launched its Royal Comfort range, which is inspired by the company’s historical royal archives.  As part of the collection, we partnered with Sanderson, which enabled us to offer our customers more than 50 fabrics to choose from to upholster their bed.  By offering such a bespoke service, we can work with our customers to create a stylish product to match their décor.

We believe that the demand for bespoke design will continue to grow as shoppers crave the ability to make something unique for their home.  This coupled with brighter colours means that we can expect to see bedrooms across the UK looking bolder than ever, with a beautiful bed at the heart of them.
