Enhancing the elegant features throughout the property creates a grand Venetian vibe

Hill House Interiors were briefed to create a sophisticated yet relaxed scheme for a Georgian mansion on the borders of leafy Surrey. The client, a couple with three grown-up children who adore the signature Hill House style, wanted to update their home whilst retaining its stunning original features. The end result is truly spectacular - the designers have enhanced the soft, romantic feel throughout the property with a muted palette, fun details and tailored elements which give this period property a fresh, modern new look.

Reminiscent of a grand Venetian interior, the entrance hallway has a delicate lilac colour scheme to beautifully contrast with the monochrome tiling underfoot. The space has been overhauled with traditional but light furniture to complement existing pieces, with new items given a distressed finish and hand painted in soothing mushroom tones.

Adding timeless elegance, light fixtures and mirrors have elements of Venetian crystal. Adjacent to the hallway, Hill House have given the home a totally new dimension, extending and transforming the orangery to create an oasis where the family can relax or entertain. The original ceiling moulding and traditional fireplace have been retained, whilst luxurious modern fabrics by Jim Thompson, Fox Linton and Sahco Hesslein in champagne and cyan hues add a sense of tranquility, taking the inspiration from nature’s palette. There is a bespoke chilled drinks cabinet, concealed by mirrored sliding doors, stylish silvery grey thread lamps and butter-soft upholstery. Bringing together the overall look is a show stopping metallic finished floor by Artwood.

Also leading off the main entrance is a chic equestrian TV den; inspired by local rambling countryside, accents of deep Bordeaux create an intimate atmosphere, and existing recessed cabinetry was refurbished to ensure the owner’s objet can be beautifully displayed. Hill House sourced sumptuous Hermès style fabrics for cushions and blinds, adding to the moody ambience of this classic contemporary space.

Upstairs, every bedroom has the feel of a 7 star hotel suite. Th e master bedroom was totally transformed, with two smaller rooms knocked into one to create an extensive walk-in closet with bespoke dressing table. Understated Larson fabrics and an immensely tactile Sahco wall covering make a subtle design statement without detracting from the stunning garden views beyond.

Helen Bygraves, co-founder of Hill House Interiors, comments: ‘We designed a more laid-back scheme to accentuate the elegant period features, but touches of the couture style
we’ve become known for are still apparent throughout. It’s a fresh take on the wow factor.’
